[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-01 Summary: Father of the Serial Killer Subgenre ... This novel introduced the Lecter character, and it included a lot of interesting dialogue involving him, but in my opinion, it's the Dolarhyde character that really made this novel. Harris managed to reconstruct much of young Francis Dolarhyde's life, from infancy to adulthood, and he delved into the many complex and frightening events that shaped him into quite possibly the most insane killer ever conceived. The aunt and uncle who have taken in Creelisel Carlbrun and her brother Hagen can't afford the extra mouths and certainly can't offer a dowry to marry off the freckled young lass. Of course the most logical thing to do is offer Creel up to a nearby dragon. As luck would have it, Theoradus the brown dragon isn't interested in eating the girl or in fighting a would-be knight or prince for her.
