Editorial Reviews ... Product Description | Harry Potter is the titular character and the protagonist of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The books cover seven years in the life of the lonely orphan who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard. He attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to learn magic. QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES (re: Harry Potter)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-10-06 Summary: Great ... This book is a great addition to your Harry Potter library. It also has proceeds going to charity. ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-27 Summary: For Quidditch fans ... I'm still quite fond of this little gem of a book--maybe it's the fact that it was written for charity and is thus calling out to me, but it's still a heck of a lot of fun to have a little "extra" for my Harry Potter collection, though I like to think the copy owned by Harry is a bit thicker. But one still has to give it up for J. K. Rowling turning her considerable talents to the lore she has suggested in the main series. While nothing is necessary for HP appreciation, this is handy and gives you a geeky insight ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2006-09-30 Summary: They should add this to our History of Magic class. ... Earlier this year Professor Binns assigned us a written report. History of Magic being the most boring class at Hogwarts, I was dreadding this assignment. That is, until I found a copy of QUIDDITCH THROUGH THE AGES in the school library. In his book, Kennilworthy Whisp discusses the evolution of Quidditch, racing brooms, the rules of the game, the pro-teams and their infamous incidents throughout the years. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2004-07-05 Summary: Quidditch Through the Ages ... Quidditch Through the Ages is a sort of addition to the Harry Potter series. If you've read the Harry Potter books, you probably remember the characters talking about what a wonderful, exciting and informative book it is. I kind of expected it to be longer, but I suppose that you can't get everything you want... all in all, for an additional book I thought that it was pretty okay. The best things about it were the little comments and tid bits that made it really seem like a book from the Hogwarts library.... the card ...more
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Harry Potter)
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-27 Summary: Actually has some truth to it ... I adore this book almost as much as I adore the series itself. Rowling was truly in a mood of creativity when she came up with this. What is only mentioned in passing in the books becomes a fully realized and surprisingly clever look at various monsters of the magical world. In reality, I like animals as much as the next person, so it's quite sweet to see summaries of those that don't exist. Rowling also makes sure to give nods to actual folklore as she writes. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-02-11 Summary: Great Insights into Wizarding Culture ... This book is fun and also offers some excellent insight into the ways wizards think and how they would confront the problem of dangerous creatures and also why they find the less dangerous animals beautiful. There is also a lot of information on classifying the different species of magical creatures, as well as a distinction between a magical "being" and a magical "beast." The opening of the book, a forward by Newt Scamander is also exciting, as he explains what drew him towards the subject of magical creatures and ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2010-01-27 Summary: A fun companion ... This is a cute little companion book to the Harry Potter series. They included lots of info about animals that are just touched upon in the main books. My kids have read and re-read it many times. The "notes" in the margins are a cute touch. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-09-19 Summary: A Closer Look ... If you have read the Potter series this book is for you. It gives you more detail into the mystical creatures in the books. I love it. ...more
